Festivals

bomvupromoBomvu Promotions have organized 27 festivals in the last nine years in Coffee Bay. Bomvu’s Cultural Drum and Dance Festival will be celebrating its 10th annual festival this year and we are happy to say that it is now South Africa’s No. 1 drum festival.

festivals01Our very own outdoor music amphitheatre on the banks of the Bomvu River is a unique location close to the beach with amazing outdoor acoustics, rated one of the best outdoor music locations in South Africa by artist Thandiswa. Mixing the Xhosa community, their culture and spirit with local and international guests creates a true Rainbow Nation festival full of positive energy.

For the last nine years, Bomvu has worked tirelessly with the community developing arts, culture and music. The whole community has an opportunity to perform on stage, generate extra income, interact with guests and develop their artistic skills. In 2006, this initiative was recognized by the Department for Arts and Culture who provided funding to help promote the future of the festival.

We are always keen to hear from experienced percussionists, drummers and firedancers who would like to join us in the festival spirit – please contact us for details.

Earthdance International Festival

Bomvu is also a registered Earthdance Festival location, celebrated annually in September in over 222 locations in 50 different countries. The aim of the event is to bring together global communities to create a worldwide festival to help fund humanitarian causes and develop an environment of peace. The defining moment, at 1a.m local time, is “The Prayer for Peace”; a sychronised link-up when every location plays this song at the same time.
