One of the fun part of backpacking is the part where you meet various types of people, meeting new people with various types of behavior is one exciting thing you get to experience on a backpacking trip. As a backpacker I’ve met with various types of backpackers over the years, let’s take a quick look at the various types I’ve met.
THE OVERPACKER
It is that guy that brought literally all he has to the trip, overpacking is a common thing we see in an hostel, I once saw a guy in an hostel an l could think was whether he got kicked out of the house by his wife and he had to travel to a refugee camp with all of his belongings
THE I AM BETTER THAN YOU BACKPACKER
This person is one that always assume he knows more, have been somewhere better , and there’s no way you’re beating him in an argument, just like Christopher Columbus he claims to have been around the world, except that he did it by foot.
THE SPIRITUAL TRAVELER
Usually white, western, and sometimes young, usually they are on the journey of self discovery. Exploring local religions and customs, he spends his time reading books on Buddhism, Kabala, or Yoga and talking about how connected life is. Jaded by the materialism of his homeland, he has come to reconnect with the world, find inner peace, if you are interested in mythology he is probably the right person to meet up with.
THE COMPUTER GURU
They are the ones that show up in a trip with a lot of gadget, you’ll probably find them on a trip with internet access. They see others as men from stone ages and probably see themselves as beings from the 31st Century.
THE HISTORICAL STORY TELLER
They are the ones that have been on so many backpacking trips and are so eager to share their experience as a backpacker. If you have ears for stories they’ll probably be the ones you might want to stick with.
